SUMMARIZE & SAVE THIS CONTENT ON

One of the reasons this easy white chocolate milkshake recipe tastes so rich and creamy is the combination of quality white chocolate and very cold ingredients blended just until smooth. Using chilled glasses helps keep the milkshake thick longer, while blending gently prevents it from becoming too thin or icy. A chilled glass for my iced white chocolate mocha recipe, does wonders, too.

This milkshake is also easy to customize depending on what you’re craving. For a lighter version, you can reduce the amount of white chocolate slightly or use a lighter ice cream while still keeping that smooth, café-style flavor.

Items and Substitutions

  • Vanilla ice cream: The richer your ice cream, the more delicious the homemade white chocolate shake will be.
  • Cold whole milk: This helps the texture become more pliable. You can use regular milk to lighten it up, but you’ll lose some of the indulgence.
  • Chopped white chocolate: This melts better than white chocolate chips, but you can use them in a pinch.
  • Toppings: Squares of white chocolate, whipped cream, anything you can think of will work here.

Tools you’ll need

Before starting the recipe, you’ll want to have all your kitchen essentials ready. I recommend having the following items:

  • Blender
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing spoon or spatula
  • Tall serving glasses
  • Chilling rack or fridge space

Flavors To Try

The best part about this easy dessert milkshake recipe is that you can adjust the flavors!

  • Add flavored syrups like raspberry, caramel, or hazelnut for a twist.
  • Use flavored ice cream like strawberry, coffee, or cookies and cream instead of vanilla.
  • Mix in cookies or biscuits (e.g., Oreos, graham crackers) for texture and crunch.
  • Drizzle sauces inside the glass before pouring in the milkshake for a café-style presentation.

How To Make A White Chocolate Milkshake

Cubed butter is being added from a wooden board into a saucepan containing a creamy liquid on a white surface.

Step 1: Heat the heavy cream over low heat, then stir in the chopped white chocolate until fully melted and smooth. Remove from the heat and let the ganache cool completely.

A hand holds a small glass pitcher of cream above a blender cup containing a yellow liquid, ready to pour.

Step 2: In a blender, pour cooled white chocolate ganache and cold milk, then pulse for 5 seconds.

A hand holds a clear glass containing three scoops of vanilla ice cream with two plastic spoons.

Step 3: Add the vanilla ice cream to the white chocolate ganache mixture. Pulse for 10 seconds until all the ingredients are well combined to a creamy consistency.

Step 4: Transfer the white chocolate milkshake equally into two tall glasses. Top with cold whipped cream, chopped white chocolates, and one stick of white chocolate in each.

Note

Chill your serving glasses in the fridge or freezer before pouring the milkshake, it helps keep the drink cold and creamy for longer without melting too quickly.

Helpful Hints

Pro tip: Cool the ganache completely!

Cool the ganache completely before blending so the ice cream doesn’t melt too quickly.

  • Use high-quality white chocolate for the best flavor and smoothest texture.
  • Lighten it up: For a lighter version of the white chocolate milkshake, use whole milk instead of heavy cream. Blend in a touch of Greek yogurt to thicken it up while giving a bit of protein. Reduce the white chocolate a bit but add in some vanilla and try to use a lighter ice cream as the base.
  • Blend in short bursts to prevent over-melting the ice cream.
  • Double the recipe if serving guests, it’s just as quick to make a larger batch.
  • Storing: This thick creamy white chocolate milkshake is best enjoyed fresh. But if you need to store any leftovers, pour them into an airtight container and keep them in the freezer.
  • Reserving: Let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly, then give it a quick blend to restore the creamy texture. Keep in mind that the consistency may change a bit after freezing, so it’s always at its best right after blending.

Serving Suggestions

A white chocolate milkshake is already a treat on its own, but pairing it with the right snacks can turn it into a full-blown dessert experience. Below are a few of our favorites:

  • I love serving it alongside air fryer banana tortilla roll ups. The creaminess of the shake and the nutty, fruity flavor of the rolls make for a perfect match that’s both fun and satisfying.
  • If you want to dress up your milkshake for guests, try topping it with a swirl of whipped cream, a drizzle of extra ganache, and a sprinkle of chopped white chocolate. You can even serve it with a small dish of my raspberry compote recipe or old fashioned blurberry pancake syrup on the side for dipping cookies or spooning right into the milkshake.

White Chocolate Milkshake FAQs

Pin

Yes, you can substitute with milk or dark chocolate, but the flavor will be richer and less sweet than the original white chocolate milkshake.

You can melt white chocolate directly, but making ganache gives a smoother texture and blends better into the milkshake.

To make a milkshake thicker, use less milk and very cold ice cream, then blend just until smooth. You can also add extra ice cream, frozen banana, or frozen milk cubes to create a richer, creamier texture without making the shake watery.

Notes

  • White chocolate bars usually create a smoother flavor than candy melts or chips.
  • Blend only until smooth to help keep the milkshake thick and creamy.
  • During hot weather, keep the toppings chilled in the refrigerator while making the ganache and milkshake.
  • If the soda fountain glasses are tempered or borosilicate glassware is used, chill the serving glasses to keep the milkshake cold longer.
