These peanut butter banana roll ups are one of our favorite after-school snacks because they’re quick to make and use ingredients we almost always have on hand. The air fryer gives the tortilla a crispy texture while the warm banana and melty peanut butter make them feel like a treat, similar to my easy Oreo pancakes recipe.

One thing I’ve learned after making these over and over is that slightly ripe bananas work best because they stay sweet without making the tortilla soggy. We’ve packed these air fryer banana tortilla roll ups in lunchboxes, served them as quick desserts (along with this 4-ingredient banana pudding with Cool Whip) when the kids want something extra fun after school.

Why The Recipe Works💭

Texture: The air fryer makes the tortillas crispy while keeping the peanut butter and banana filling warm and creamy.

Minimal ingredients: They use simple pantry ingredients (peanut butter is one of the foods to buy in bulk to save money) and come together in just minutes.

Versatile: The air fryer banana tortilla roll ups can be used for everything from an after-school snack to an easy, indulgent breakfast or a deliciously sweet dessert.

Items and Substitutions

A banana, a bowl of chocolate chips, a bowl of peanut butter with a spoon, and two flour tortillas on a white marble surface.
  • Tortillas: Flour tortillas work best for the recipe as they’re less likely to tear when rolled. You can use large ones for a bigger treat or cut them up and make “bite-sized” roll ups.
  • Creamy peanut butter. The peanut butter banana combo is the best flavor, but know that almond butter can work as well.
  • Bananas: Slightly ripe bananas work best because overly ripe bananas can make the tortilla soggy. If you have overly ripe bananas, make this chocolate chip banana bread with no oil instead.

Tools you’ll need

Before starting the recipe, you’ll want to have all your kitchen essentials ready. I recommend having the following items:

  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Spreading knife or spoon
  • Small bowl
  • Pastry brush (if using melted butter)
  • Skillet or nonstick pan

Flavors To Try

Below are a few flavor variations we’ve tried with the air fryer banana tortilla roll ups.

  • Nut butter: Swap the peanut butter with almond, cashew, or sunflower seed butter.
  • Sweetness: Add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup to the top.
  • Crunch: Sprinkle in chopped nuts, granola, or seeds for crunch.
  • Protein-packed: Mix in a little protein powder with the peanut butter.
  • Dessert: Use mini marshmallows or a smear of Nutella.

Step 4: Remove and top with melted butter, cinnamon, and sugar if desired.

Note

Make sure to use soft, fresh tortillas so they roll easily without cracking or tearing.

Helpful Hints

Pro tip: Chill Before Toasting!

If you’re toasting the rolls, chill them in the fridge for 10–15 minutes first to help them hold their shape and makes slicing cleaner and easier.

  • Use very ripe bananas for maximum sweetness and easy spreading, but not too ripe that they’re falling apart and mushy.
  • Don’t overfill the tortilla, or it’ll be harder to roll and may fall apart.
  • Warm the peanut butter slightly for easier spreading.
  • Place the tortilla seam-side down in the air fryer and avoid overfilling them to help keep the banana tortilla roll ups tightly sealed while cooking.
  • Serving them warm keeps the tortilla crisp and the peanut butter melty.

How To Store Them

To store peanut butter banana rolls, place them in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

If you’ve toasted or warmed them with melted butter, they’re best enjoyed the same day.

However, you can reheat them in a skillet over low heat for a few minutes on each side or pop them in the microwave for 10–15 seconds to warm them through. Just keep in mind that the banana may soften more over time, so they’re best eaten fresh when possible.

How To Enjoy Them

These peanut butter banana roll ups are easy to serve as a quick snack, simple dessert, or fun breakfast for busy days.

Air Fryer Banana Tortilla Roll Ups FAQs

Pin

No, toasting is optional! The rolls are delicious as-is, but toasting adds a warm, crispy texture that makes them feel more like a treat.

Soft flour tortillas work best because they’re flexible and easy to roll without tearing—avoid using stiff or brittle wraps.

For the crispiest banana tortilla roll ups, avoid overfilling the tortillas and cook them in a single layer in the air fryer. They’re best served warm right after cooking since the tortilla naturally softens as it sits.

  • Use mini chocolate chips for better distribution and easier rolling.
  • A serrated knife works best for cleanly slicing the rolls.
