Items and Substitutions

A plate of cherry tomatoes, fresh herbs, and spices, a block of feta cheese on a separate plate, a small glass of olive oil, salt, and pepper on a white surface.
  • Feta: Use a block of feta packed in brine rather than pre-crumbled feta because it melts better.
  • Grape tomatoes: You want ripe grape tomatoes so that roasting them really brings out their sweetness.
  • Olive oil: The higher the quality, the more the flavor will shine through. You could use a flavored oil as well.

Helpful Hints

Pro tip: Use a block of feta, not crumbled

Crumbled feta won’t hold together or melt the same way, so a whole block works best.

  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer: Give the ingredients some space so the air circulates well and everything roasts evenly.
  • Keep an eye on the cooking time: Air fryer models vary, so check the feta around the 10-minute mark to avoid over-browning.
  • Line with parchment paper: This helps prevent sticking and makes cleanup much easier.
  • Add a splash of lemon juice before serving: It brightens the dish and just gives everything a bit of a lift.
  • Storing: Let the warm feta dip with tomatoes cool completely and transfer it to an airtight container. Keep it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheating: You can reheat it in the air fryer at 350°F for about 5 minutes or until warmed through. Alternatively, you can warm it in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring gently in between to help the feta melt evenly.

Air Fryer Baked Feta FAQs

Pin

It’s best to use a block of feta for this recipe because it holds its shape while baking and becomes creamy inside, whereas crumbled feta may dry out or burn.

or the creamiest texture, use a block of feta packed in brine rather than pre-crumbled feta, which tends to stay dry and crumbly. Adding enough olive oil and avoiding overcooking also helps the feta soften properly while the roasted tomatoes release juices that create a creamy sauce-like texture.

If you don’t have feta or prefer a milder flavor, you can substitute with a block of goat cheese or ricotta salata, though the texture and taste will be slightly different.

Choose ripe, firm tomatoes. This ensures they hold their shape while still releasing just enough juice to blend with the feta.
The feta is easiest to scoop and spread while still warm.
