SUMMARIZE & SAVE THIS CONTENT ON

I make this spinach strawberry salad all the time during spring and summer because it’s one of the easiest ways to make a meal feel fresh without much work. The sweet strawberries, crunchy walnuts, and bright lemon vinaigrette give it that restaurant-style flavor while still being simple enough for busy weeknights, especially paired with proteins like Greek chicken gyros with a marinade.

Though I’ll use the salad for lunch a lot, topped with leftover BBQ chicken breast in the air fryer, we also serve it for BBQs, brunches, or lighter dinners because it’s so simple.

Step 4: In a separate bowl, mix together olive oil, the juice of one lemon, salt, and pepper before pouring it over top of the salad.

Note

Add the dressing just before serving. This keeps the spinach and other greens from wilting, so your salad stays crisp and vibrant. Tossing the ingredients lightly with the dressing ensures each bite has a balanced flavor without overwhelming the fresh strawberries and crunchy walnuts.

Helpful Hints

Pro tip: Toast the nuts

Toasting the walnuts briefly in a skillet or oven enhances their flavor and gives them a satisfying crunch that contrasts nicely with the other textures.

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh spinach and strawberries give the salad a vibrant look and taste. If possible, buy strawberries in season, they’ll be sweeter and juicier.
  • Dress it just before serving: Add the dressing right before you’re ready to eat. This prevents the spinach from wilting and keeps the salad fresh.
  • Taste the dressing and adjust: Before drizzling on the dressing, give it a taste and add any sweetness or seasonings you want.
  • Prepping: You can chop everything ahead of time and store it in separate containers so that it all stays fresh.
  • Storing leftovers: If you have to store already dressed salad, do so in an airtight container and know that it’s best eaten within a day.

Strawberry Spinach Salad Recipe FAQs

Yes, but it’s best to keep the ingredients separate until serving to maintain freshness. Store the spinach, strawberries, walnuts, and dressing in individual containers. Right before serving, combine all ingredients for the freshest texture and flavor. Pre-sliced strawberries may be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1-2 days.

Goat cheese or blue cheese work well if you’re looking for a tangy flavor similar to feta. For a dairy-free option, try vegan feta, or add a sprinkle of nutritional yeast for a subtle cheesy taste. Fresh avocado chunks also add a creamy texture that pairs nicely with the other ingredients.

To avoid excess moisture, pat the strawberries dry with a paper towel before adding them to the salad. You could also add strawberries right before serving and drizzle the dressing over the salad at the last minute. This helps maintain the crispness of the spinach and keeps the salad from becoming soggy.
